Dear Students,

Greetings and a warm welcome to all of you.

The topic that we will deliberate upon today is "Fairness and Impartiality"

“In case of dissension, never dare to judge till you've heard the other side.”
― Euripides, The Children of Herakles

Why is it important to be fair and impartial ?

One of the greatest qualities of a people's person is that he or she is fiercely fair and impartial in approach. The person does not only seem fair or impartial but the same is reflected in his actions and deeds too. At no point in time he or she is found to be unfair, for fairness wins the heart of friends and foes equally. For a person to be admired, loved and respected, it is really important to be free of nepotism or favouritism. If the person is seen as partial and unfair, people will lose their faith and confidence in him or her and soon the person will get abondoned by followers.

Let us consider, the example of an umpire in the game of cricket or hockey or any other. Would you digest the fact that the umpire makes decisions that appear to be unfair and partial, supporting at winning of a particular team? Definitely, it would be so annoying and irritating, you would not want that of umpire in the game at all!

So, now do you see the importance of being fair and impartial in your actions, deeds and decisions?

What does it mean to be impartial?

Being impartial means that you do not make decisions based on your emotional inclinations or hearsay. You consider the facts that are objective and verifyable and not rumors that are largely unveriable.

One of the most dreaded quality is hypocrisy, which means having double standards, those that one uses to weigh oneself and others with. Also, if a person tries to judge everyone else all the time and that too unfairly, he or she would estrange and alienate himself or herself sooner or later, but definitely.

So the idea is to shun such thoughts and follow principles of fairness and imartiality at all times.
